My Favorite Compass Files.

I had used a compass in the Army in the 1970s.  Some thirty years later, when I first tried to re-teach myself how to use a compass, these four chapters, from the Military Land Navigation Field Manual, helped me the most.  Don't think you must have a Lensatic Compass, a Military One, like what they show here.  The following files will help you, whether you use a Military Compass, or a "Hiking Compass."
