I have paraphrased in some places to make it easier to say and read. Lord Jesus, help me to know not only your sacrifice but also your joy. Thank you for this glimpse into the state with your Father in which you dwelt and had your being. Teach me to rejoice as you commanded me, in the serenity and peace of at-joy-ness. Deepen within me not only the life of relinquishment, but teach me also to carry myself with th joy you knew, not walking with head bowed as I grimly follow my own Calvary road, but whith head high because I am my Father’s child. Teach me to not merely obey but to obey with rejoicing, looking beyond, living in eternal expectation that goodness reigns throughout the universe. Help me to abide in you, and in oneness with you, in such a way that allows your joy to be fulfilled within me. Let me take my own obedient share in that abiding life by rejoicing as my Father’s obedients child. Father, let me allow you to carry out your complete purpose wihtin me and through me, that Christlikeness itself might be fulfilled in me. Let the prayer, “What would you have me do?” be ever on my lips and in my heart. Let my will be only and always your will for me. Let the words “Not my will but yours be done” be the constant orientation of my heart. Make me one with you as you and Jesus are one. As you make Christlikeness more a part of my being and character, let obedience be my only desire. And when darkness closes around me, let me still cry out in trust of you, My Father. Deepen more and more aspects of your joy within me—let it be, as Jesus prayed, fulilled in me—that I might thereby bring more completely to reality in my life the prayers of Christlikeness, childship, relinquishment, death of my old nature, life…and joy.
